Hardcore F. Scott Fitzgerald fans have always written off the idea of a movie adaptation of 锟絋he Great Gatsby锟?as something impossible to get right. A look back at the four films that it锟絪 been turned into so far reveals that their negative thoughts have been pretty accurate. Of the versions made in 1926, 1949, 1974, and 2000 (for television),beats by dre, only the 锟?4 film, with Robert Redford as Jay Gatsby and Mia Farrow as Daisy Buchanan, has come close to capturing the essence of the book, but even so, that film came across as a kind of flat and dull interpretation of Fitzgerald锟絪 words. The new version (yes, the fifth) has had plenty of people nervous about it, mostly because it锟絪 been adapted and directed by Baz Luhrmann, chanel handbags, who is best known for pumping up Shakespeare with his 锟絉omeo + Juliet锟?and for repeatedly going way over the top with his dazzling and glitzy 锟組oulin Rouge!锟紹ut the good news, make that the surprisingly good news, is that Luhrmann锟絪 锟紾atsby,锟?complete with its dazzling, glitzy moments of over-the-topness, is the closest thing yet to the novel锟絪 story and spirit.I would strongly suggest that if you haven锟絫 read the book, do so before seeing the film. C锟絤on, it锟絪 a mere 150 pages of brisk, beautiful reading. You can get it done in two hours,p90x dvd, and it锟絣l help you appreciate what it锟絪 been turned into.Sure, nitpickers will be bothered by a new framework of protagonist and first-person narrator Nick Carraway telling the story in flashback from a psychiatrist锟絪 office. Naysayers won锟絫 like the fact that antagonist and swaggering bad guy Tom Buchanan actually says, 锟絀 told you never to call me here,锟?on the phone, louboutin pas cher, to his mistress, instead of that line just being implied. But reasonable people will understand that a book is a book and a film is a film. And they锟絣l realize that the little changes here work beautifully within the context of the film.Gatsby (Leo DiCaprio owns the role from the moment you first see his dazzling smile) is a mysterious, extremely wealthy fellow who has an impossible agenda that involves recreating his own happier past. The also, but not quite as,monster beats, wealthy Tom and Daisy Buchanan (Joel Edgerton, Carey Mulligan) are a couple who couldn锟絫 be less happy together. Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) is the disillusioned fellow 锟?and the only truly innocent person in the story 锟?who comes East in the 1920s to find his fortune, or maybe just figure out his life, and falls into the midst of this 锟?Fitzgerald锟絪 words 锟?锟絩otten crowd.锟絇eople gather in gorgeous settings, then lie to each other, cheat on each other. Cases of mistaken identity lead to tragedy; dark secrets haunt others; words are blurted that aren锟絫 meant to be said aloud. It锟絪 into this visually beautiful but emotionally bankrupt world that Luhrmann sets up his swooping 3-D cameras and his fast editing style. There is, as rumor has suggested, a tad of hip-hop on the soundtrack (composed by Luhrmann regular Craig Armstrong, not, as reported, by Shawn Carter), but it actually works when it锟絪 part of the film锟絪 frenzied music-drenched party sequences. This is a love story about lonely and selfish people, longchamps, each of whom, with the exception of Nick, believes that he or she is entitled to anything they desire. At the center of it all is Gatsby锟絪 impossible longing for the unattainable Daisy. It锟絪 a tale that锟絪 fascinating, entertaining and profoundly sad.Ed Symkus covers movies for More Content Now.THE GREAT GATSBYWritten by Baz Luhrmann and Craig Pearce; directed by Baz LuhrmannWith Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carrey Mulligan, Joel EdgertonRated R
If that was an inevitability, it came to pass on Thursday, as the Barstow softball team played in Covina, taking on Northview High School. It was a close game all the way, louboutin pas cher, with the Lady Vikings breaking a sixth-inning tie with a solo home run, and making that lead stand up for a 5-4 win in CIF-SS playoff action.
` X3 was returned to the Apalachicola National Forest on July 2, 1996, hung around a day or two and then began a westward trip. The last reported contact with X3 was on July 13 near Wewahitchka in Gulf County.
The other team with an area player to advance is No. 11 seed Washington, with Lindsay Monk (Menifee Paloma Valley/Riverside City College). The Huskies will be at No. 6 seed Missouri.
