Marlins' latest fire sale is inexcusable
The Marlins had everything going for them heading into this season: a new first-class stadium, new colors and uniforms, a new manager with a World Series ring on his finger, a jacked-up budget and a revamped roster to go with a revised name.

The Los Angeles Angels went on a similar spending spree and were crowned AL offseason champs, while the Marlins were declared winners of the NL offseason. And the expectations skyrocketed. But after fewer than 100 games, the entire project disintegrated and the Marlins scrapped the plan, opting for cheap-suited door-to-door salesman mode.
On Monday night, the team dealt righthander Anibal Sanchez and second baseman Omar Infante to the Detroit Tigers. That was followed by Tuesday's late-night trade of third baseman Hanley Ramirez-once the franchise player-to the Los Angeles Dodgers chan luu. And it won't be shocking if ace Josh Johnson is dealt before the July 31 nonwaiver trading deadline.
It is surprising and absurd that the Marlins didn't give this new roster an entire season to develop. By next season, this collection of talented but underachieving players might have played the kind of baseball that teams like the Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles are playing this season. Instead, a sledgehammer is walloping the team before that new-park smell has had a chance to drift out of Little Havana.
Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria got his sweetheart ballpark deal and asked fans to fill it; in a span of about 36 hours, he disrespectfully chased them away because he didn't get immediate satisfaction on the field. And according to at least two sources, other teams' front offices are looking down on this latest Marlins fire sale.

Miami is 13 ½ games out of first place in the National League East and nine games out in the NL wild-card race ヴィトン 財布, so it clearly failed to live up to this season's lofty and probably unrealistic goals. There have been underachieving newcomers-Jose Reyes, Heath Bell-but remember that there are still a lot of players on this roster who contributed to a 90-loss season in 2011.
Sure, the Detroit deal might help the Marlins if prospect Jacob Turner develops into a front-line starting pitcher, plus Sanchez might have left in free agency in the offseason anyway casque beats. And, yes, getting another young starter vivienne westwood, Nate Eovaldi, from the Dodgers and not having to eat any of Ramirez's remaining salary (approximately $38 million) is a win.
But this Miami squad wasn't sold as one that might be blown up if it played below expectations. It was sold to South Florida as if times had changed, as if this was a new and promising era vanessa bruno, and Ramirez was advertised as a big part of that. Loria and his boys in the front office touted that, putting themselves on Showtime's reality series "The Franchise" because their facelift was so dramatic. Things haven't panned out, and the TV ratings grab will be the way Loria and the Marlins completely gave up on the plan they were so proud of just a few months ago.
"Don't blame the front office," manager Ozzie Guillen said Tuesday after Sanchez and Infante were traded but before Ramirez was out the door. Part of that is true. The terrible record and the minus-77 run differential are on the players. Ramirez didn't perform. Reyes hasn't, either Pandora Necklace. Bell has been a bust of Barry Zito proportions, and slugger Giancarlo Stanton is hurt.
After the Marlins won the World Series in 2003, the team sold off valuable parts like Derrek Lee, Brad Penny ergo baby carrier, Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell, Juan Pierre and Luis Castillo. Loria and the front office asked fans to be patient as the prospects they received in return developed. All the while lululemon, Loria pocketed his revenue-sharing profits yet still asked Miami for money for a new stadium.
Fans suffered through the losing lululemon sale, and Loria got his ballpark. It looked like he would reward what little loyalty Miami seemed to provide by splurging on free agents this past winter, telling everyone it signaled a new day in Marlins baseball.
Skeptics scoffed pandora bracelet. After all, this still was Jeffrey Loria spouting the claim. And sure enough, all of it turned out to be a farce. Loria snatched back that reward in appalling fashion, jarring it from the fans' grip with a full-on, running-start kick to the ribs tresor paris.
